Despite many people being away on holiday it was a busy august for us.
Everyone has been taking bacon away with them for a good holiday breakfast so bacon has been going really well. Madeira is the furthest I know of but maybe someone can beat that!
All the staff have been taking their holidays in turn so we have been juggling lows a bit.
Laura organised a Bavarian night with the Fairey Band which went extremely well, so much so that we have had to agree to another on the 19th December to keep everyone happy. The only condition is that all the Christmas trees will have to be sold by then so we can use the buildings.
All our Dorset shearings have gone to the farm in Yorkshire which has an orchard of unusual varieties of apple trees. The welsh black heifers usually go there but the farmer particularly wanted sheep this year. David and I went to check on them this week and they look extremely happy . The apple trees are hanging with fruit as well so they will shortly be helping themselves to a diet of apples.
David took one of the rams with them as well because our customers enjoy seeing the early lambs so much that he decided we may as well plan some deliberately. There will be lambs on show in January if all goes well.
Brian has let loose the cockerel and two hens which have been up in the car park pen for a while. They are clucking around very happily and seem in no danger of getting run over. The batch of chicks which we had on show on the open day are nearly ready to go out into the pen. They grow very quickly.
